Be a beacon of light for those in the dark

Use your knowledge, and your heart, to stand up for those who can't stand, speak for those who can't speak, be a beacon of light for those whose lives have become dark. -- Julie Andrews

We all carry the Light.  The question of the day for you is what do you do with that Light?  Do you let it shine brightly or do you hide it?  Do you use the Light within you to help people or do you hide it and keep it to yourself?

I carry the Light and shine it brightly for the world to see.  By doing that, I can not only be myself but to help others.  I smile at people, I offer encouragement when needed and offer to help whenever possible.

There are so many people in this world who are suffering in darkness.  They are not thousands of miles away.  They could be your neighbor, a family member, a friend, or the cashier at the grocery store.  Will you shine your Light and help them?

Today I ask you to be a beacon of Light.  Help someone.  You may be exactly what they need to get them out of the darkness.

Learning how to love is the goal...

Learning how to love is the goal and purpose of spiritual life – not learning how to develop psychic powers, not learning how to bow, chant, do yoga, or even meditate, but learning to love. Love is the truth. Love is the Light. – Lama Surya Bas

No matter what your spiritual belief, spiritual love with a higher being is another example of unconditional love. (If you are an atheist or an agnostic, this inspirational thought may not be for you and I'll see you tomorrow) But for those who have a spiritual love, listen up!

The purpose of being spiritual has nothing to do with learning how to pray, chant, do yoga, meditate, etc. but with learning how to love. All religions/spiritual beliefs teach their followers how to love.  Love your neighbors as yourself. Love is patient and kind. Love God.

Love is Truth and Light.

I love God. My first experience in unconditional love was when I learned how much God loves me. He doesn’t care what I have done in the past or what I look like. He loves me for me! He's been with me through all the bad times and rejoiced with me in all the good times. He has never let me down and I love Him.

I love my neighbors as I love myself (more so on some occasions). Through spiritual love, I learned how to love my fellow human beings. I don't judge anyone and I try to see the good in each person. Nowhere in the Bible does it say to hate those who are different than I am. It says to love.

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” – Matthew 7:12

I follow the Golden Rule and continue to spread the Light! Who's with me?

Be a kindness confetti canyon @NNP_W_Light

Kindness is your soul’s way of finding a place inside other people’s hearts. It is a shelter fortified in gratitude.

Are you a kindness confetti canyon?

On Twitter, fellow followers launch confetti in the air with their own virtual confetti canyon whenever something exciting happens.  When I saw this quote, I thought immediately about my own confetti canyon.  I try to show encouragement and kindness to everyone I meet.  It doesn't take any effort but it makes a huge difference.

When you are kind to someone, you are opening a door to their soul and even if they don't tell you they are grateful.

Kindness is another way to spread the Light.

What are you waiting for?

Smile at people today, be kind, hug those you love and wish everyone you meet to have a great day!

Spread that kindness around like a confetti canyon.

Answer this very important question @NNP_W_Light

When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement, “My purpose is to… today”.

Everyone has a purpose.  I have a purpose.  You have a purpose.  The person down the street has a purpose.

Read the quote above and complete the statement:

My purpose is to...

Don't know how to answer it?  Here are a few suggestions:

-spread the Light

-love unconditionally

-be kind

-encourage others

-pray for the world

-volunteer somewhere

-donate food, clothing, time to a local food bank/pantry

-smile brightly

-write a book

-start a blog

-start an online petition about a cause you believe in

No matter what your purpose is, get going.

Be like the sun... by @NNP_W_Light

When you do something beautiful and nobody noticed, do not be sad. For the sun every morning is a beautiful spectacle and yet most of the audience still sleeps. – John Lennon

I remember a time in my life where I got up so early in the morning, I saw the sunrise.  It would literally take my breath away.

Spreading the Light and being kind are like the sun rising.  They are beautiful and yet most people miss out on them because they are sleeping.  I get asked a lot, "Why do you do it?  Why are you so kind to people?"

My answer is simple: I do it because it is what I do.  I am a Light Spreader.  It is a part of me and it doesn't matter to me if anyone notices or thanks me.  I don't do it for that.  I spread the Light because it's as natural for me as breathing.

Be like the sun and spread the Light for all to see! You will make a difference even if no one tells you.

You have the power! @NNP_W_Light

But even with the inspiration of others, it's understandable that we sometimes think the world's problems are so big that we can do little to help. On our own, we cannot end wars or wipe out injustice, but the cumulative impact of thousands of small acts of goodness can be bigger than we imagine. ~ Queen Elizabeth II

Did you know you have the power to change the world?

I'm a big believer in the impact of several small acts of kindness and how, when millions of people come together for a cause, great things happens. I've been witness to a multitude of world-changing events. I've seen first-hand how one person's idea for change can grow to a movement.

When we first started the POTL blog back in 2014, it was just MR N and myself sharing our vision of what the world would look like if everyone spread the Light and showed compassion to those in need. It blossomed into a movement. Five years later, there are millions of people spreading the Light and asking others to do the same. I'm too humble to take credit for this change but I'm thrilled to be a part of it.

There will be people who will scoff at your idea or your actions. They'll try to put you down saying you don't have the power to make change. Don't listen to them! They're afraid of your power and will do/say anything to squash you. Don't let them steal your power. Instead, combine your efforts with others to make real change.

What are you going to do today to change the world?

You have the power. All you have to do is harness it.

Do you follow the Golden Rule? @NNP_W_Light

In the end, nothing we do or say in our lifetime will matter as much as the way we have loved one another. – Daphne Rose Kingman

What's the most important thing we do in our lifetime?

Love one another.

I'm a firm believer in the Golden Rule (treat others like you would like to be treated). I try to spread kindness and love to everyone I know, meet and interact with. I smile at the person who cuts me off in line. I love people who hate me. I encourage those who need it, even without them telling me.

Why do I do this?

I was taught from the time I was small to love everyone, no matter what. It didn't matter if the person I loved reciprocated or deserved my love. I couldn't control anyone but myself.

I've had friends come and go in my life. Even though they aren't in my life anymore, I still love them.

I know what you're thinking...

C'mon MRS N, nobody is that perfect! Don't you get hurt or angry when people leave you or lash out at you?

Sure, I do but that doesn't mean I don't love them. I'm human and I make mistakes. I cry and curse. But when the dust has settled and I meditate/pray about it, love comes pouring out of me. It's who I am as a person, at my core.

What's the most important thing you do in your lifetime?

In the end, nothing we do or say in our lifetime will matter as much as the way we have loved one another.
